Year End Reflections

The Recurring Perspective Question

As the year turns to an end, it is the natural and logical time to reflect. I find it truly remarkable, that we need to wait a year for this process to kick in. How wonderful would it be to be continuously reflected and at ease with ourselves?

I recently visited Dubai and made the picture heading this article. I was astonished by the design at first, and after that by the technical construction. It must be fulfilling to create and build something like that. When I looked at the picture I made, I wondered whether I had noticed the white building in the background, if I would not have looked through this creative structure in front of it. Looking through it, it changed my perspective.

In reflecting the year that has passed, I wonder:

Which is the question you would not have thought to ask a year ago, but is so important right now?

It might be a question which you should ask others. Your friend, husband or wife, co-worker or manager. It might well be a question you would ask yourself to reflect.

In coaching, this could be an empowering question. It is a question which could unlock potential which is already there, right there inside you.

The power of this question lies in the perspective change you have created. In the past year, you have developed, you have learned, you have felt hurt, and have hopefully experienced true pleasures. All this, in just one year, without even being completely conscious about all of it.

Perspective changes trigger creativity. You don’t need to wait a year for that. Go ahead and ask the question. And find the power that lies within it.

Thank you to my regular (albeit not too many) readers, for their warm personal words and online reactions to my posts. I wish you all a great year end. For the new year, I am wishing you the reflection question to reoccur, again and again, as often as you need it. Even if it’s not year end.

Season’s greetings

Wilbert
